The minimum annual income requirement is now £29,000 before tax. This can be met through salaried employment, self-employment, savings, or a combination of these sources. Certain exemptions may apply if the applicant or sponsor receives specific benefits.
The Home Office will expect evidence such as photographs together, joint bank accounts, tenancy agreements, travel tickets, correspondence, and proof of ongoing communication. We guide you on exactly what to provide to strengthen your case.
You must have housing in the UK that is safe, legal, and not overcrowded according to UK Housing Act standards. This can be a rented or owned property. We advise on acceptable evidence, such as tenancy agreements and property inspection reports.
Unless exempt, applicants must pass an approved English language test at CEFR level A1 or above for an initial application. Nationals of majority English-speaking countries and those with qualifying degrees may be exempt.
Standard processing can take several months. Priority services may reduce the wait, but availability depends on the visa application centre. We help you choose the best option for your circumstances.
Yes, if you meet the eligibility criteria and are not on certain types of visas (such as visitor visas). We can assess your case and confirm whether an in-country switch is possible.
Our expertise in UK spouse and fiancé visas has helped clients from all walks of life — including complex and high-pressure cases — achieve fast, positive results.
Challenge: Our client, a multi-millionaire, had no liquid cash — only significant investments. Without access to cash savings, the standard financial requirement posed a major obstacle for securing a UK fiancé visa.
Solution: We devised a strategy to liquidate part of the investment portfolio, creating the necessary cash reserves. This allowed us to meet the Home Office’s strict financial requirement and submit a well-documented application.
Outcome: The fiancé visa was approved without delays. Later, for the spouse visa, we used dividends from remaining investments to meet the updated financial requirement and secured approval in record time by utilising the Home Office’s Priority Service.
Challenge: The sponsor was receiving benefits and did not earn enough to meet the £29,000 minimum income threshold. Many believed this meant the application would fail.
Solution: We identified that the sponsor was exempt from the standard salary requirement due to the specific benefits received. We then prepared detailed financial calculations demonstrating that the couple met the Home Office’s adequate maintenance requirement.
Outcome: The UK spouse visa was approved, reuniting the couple in the UK without the need to meet the usual income threshold.
Challenge: A client brought his family to the UK on a visitor visa, which normally prevents switching to another visa type from within the UK. The family could not afford the visa fees and Immigration Health Surcharge.
Solution: We applied for a fee waiver on human rights grounds, which was granted, waiving both the application and IHS fees. We then prepared and submitted strong applications for the spouse visa and dependant visas under human rights grounds.
Outcome: The spouse visa was approved within just one month — far faster than the usual 12-month process — allowing the family to remain together in the UK.
